Dixie McDaniel Davis Named VIP of the Year for Excellence in Nursing

After her child graduated from high school, Ms. Davis returned to school to pursue God's lead into nursing

AVON PARK, FL, June 22, 2011 /Surgery PR News/ -- Dixie M. Davis, Registered Nurse and Bedside Staff Nurse at Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who as a VIP of the Year for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in surgical orthopedic rehabilitation nursing.

A 16-year health care industry veteran, Ms. Davis encourages, befriends and educates her patients and co-workers at every opportunity. At Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center, where she has worked for the past 11 years, Ms. Davis manages patient care plans, including making accurate assessments and administering medications in a timely manner. With a goal of enhancing patient outcomes, she also stages interventions and ensures compassionate provision of care. Moreover, she demonstrates an expertise in surgical orthopedic rehabilitation nursing
.
Prior to embarking on her career a nurse, Ms. Davis worked as a computer programmer for 14 years. Upon reading a book about a nurse, God led her to return to school while raising and providing for her daughter as a single mother. Guided by her faith, she says, in response to God, "I promised that I would become a nurse if He enabled me to attend nursing school while not working." After she remarried and her daughter graduated from high school, her new husband supported her by-then-incessant desire to become a nurse
.
Ms. Davis earned a Master of Science in Nursing, summa cum laude, from the University of Phoenix in 2010. She also received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, magna cum laude, from Western Carolina University in 1999 and an associate degree in nursing from Robeson Community College, also magna cum laude, in 1996. Certified in basic life support and cardiac life support, Ms. Davis is professionally affiliated with the Florida Nurse Association, the American Nurses Association, the National Nurses Honor Society and Sigma Theta Tau International. Looking ahead, Ms. Davis intends to continue working in the health care field and explore the possibility of teaching nursing students.
